Sverdlovsk Philharmonic
Concert Hall
Overview
The Sverdlovsk Philharmonic Concert Hall project, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, is an innovative new addition to Yekaterinburg. A detailed VR projection was created to help stakeholders visualize and experience the design before construction, providing a realistic and immersive preview of the concert hall's future.
Project Background
Yekaterinburg is often considered the capital of the Urals, and it has a rich musical tradition. The city’s acclaimed Ural Philharmonic Orchestra, which has performed internationally and collaborates with renowned artists, needed a new home to accommodate its growing popularity. The new Philharmonic Concert Hall will meet this demand and provide a new public plaza for the city. The design of the new concert hall is inspired by the physical properties of sound waves, translating musical resonance into architectural form. The auditoria is suspended within a continuous smooth surface, appearing to float above a new civic plaza that serves as both the lobby of the concert hall and an enclosed urban square.
Our team developed a comprehensive VR projection to bring this visionary design to life before construction begins. Using architectural plans provided by Zaha Hadid Architects, our team created detailed 3D models of the concert hall, including its unique wave-like structure and intricate interior spaces. The models were enhanced with realistic textures and lighting effects to represent the materials and ambiance of the proposed design accurately. Special attention was given to the transparency and reflective qualities of the glass facade to simulate how it will interact with natural light. The VR experience allows users to explore the concert hall interactively. Users can navigate through the main lobby, auditoria, and rooftop terrace, gaining a comprehensive understanding of the space and its design. Various scenarios were incorporated into the VR projection to showcase the hall's functionality. The VR projection was designed to be accessible and user-friendly, ensuring that all stakeholders, including non-technical personnel, could easily navigate and interact with the virtual environment.
VR Project Development
- Enhanced Visualization: the VR projection provides a realistic and immersive preview of the concert hall, allowing stakeholders to appreciate the design’s aesthetics and functionality fully.
- Improved Decision-Making: by experiencing the design in VR, stakeholders can make more informed decisions about materials, layout, and other critical aspects of the project.
- Engagement and Buy-In: VR's immersive nature helps to engage stakeholders and secure buy-in by providing a tangible vision of the future concert hall.
The VR projection for the Sverdlovsk Philharmonic Concert Hall exemplifies how virtual reality can revolutionize architectural visualization. By providing a detailed and immersive preview of the new concert hall, the VR projection aids in decision-making, enhances stakeholder engagement, and ensures that the final design meets the high standards expected for this world-class facility. This innovative approach aligns with Yekaterinburg's cultural heritage and forward-thinking vision, promising a vibrant new hub for music and community gatherings.
